SAN FRANCISCO - September 2, 2020 - Cigna (NYSE: CI) and Dignity Health have reached a multi-year agreement that ensures Cigna customers can receive high-quality, affordable care from Dignity Health providers. The new agreement returns the health system to Cigna's networks in California and Nevada, effective July 1, 2020.
"We are delighted to welcome Dignity Health back into Cigna's networks under a new arrangement that will greatly benefit the people we jointly serve," said Gene Rapisardi, President of Cigna's Southern California and Nevada markets.
"As a mission-driven organization, Dignity Health is committed to the health and well-being of every person in our communities. That mission has never been more important than it is today," said Tammy Wilcox, Senior Vice President of Payer Strategy and Relationships for Dignity Health. "This agreement ensures we can continue to provide outstanding, value-driven care for Cigna customers. We know how important access to high quality health care providers is, and we appreciate the patience of our patients, referring physicians, and Cigna's clients during these negotiations."
The new agreement follows a period of renewed negotiations focused on cooperation and a commitment to finding a path forward. Negotiations held last year ended without an agreement, which resulted in Dignity Health becoming out-of-network for the majority of Cigna's Nevada customers in December 2019 and California customers in January 2020.
"We're very happy that, with renewed energy and a laser focus on the needs of our customers and communities, we were able to find common ground and achieve an excellent outcome," said Peter Welch, President of Cigna's Northern California market.
