Cigna Expands Medicare Advantage Presence in Connecticut

·$0 premium plans available in Litchfield, Middlesex counties
·Benefits vary, but include a dental allowance, caregiver, hearing, vision and broader financial wellness incentives

HARTFORD, Conn. – Nov. 1, 2022 – Cigna is expanding its Medicare Advantage (MA) presence in Connecticut, offering $0 premium plans with attractive extra benefits in Litchfield and Middlesex counties. These plans will be available to Medicare-eligible customers during Medicare’s Annual Election Period (AEP), which begins Oct. 15 and continues through Dec. 7. They will be effective Jan. 1, 2023.

“We are pleased to expand our Medicare footprint in Connecticut, where our company is headquartered, and look forward to being able to provide more people eligible for Medicare Advantage with access to health care that is affordable, predictable and simple,” said Debra Kaplan-Lewis, president of Cigna's Medicare business in Connecticut.

Cigna entered Connecticut for the first time with MA products for last year’s AEP, launching plans in New Haven County, which are continuing this year. Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center recently joined the company’s MA network there, making it easier for seniors in the Greater New Haven area to access in-network integrated, quality and affordable health care in their community.

Cigna also is offering the following products in Litchfield and Middlesex counties for this year’s AEP: Cigna True Choice Medicare (PPO), with $0 premium; Cigna True Choice Savings Medicare (PPO), with $0 premium and featuring a $40 monthly rebate on the customer’s Part B premium; Cigna True Choice Plus Medicare (PPO), with more robust benefits for a premium, and Cigna TotalCare Select Plus (HMO D-SNP), which is a plan for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid that features a $100 allowance every three months to be used for paying utilities.

Medicare Advantage plans are popular with people who qualify for Medicare because they include benefits that Original Medicare does not.

All plans also include the following:

  • A dental allowance to be used for preventive and comprehensive non-cosmetic services at any licensed dentist who accepts Medicare
  • Hearing and vision dental benefits
  • A fitness benefit, including a fitness tracker
  • Meal delivery following a hospital discharge
  • A caregiver support program that provides resources and assistance to help ease the strain of managing care
  • The Healthy Today flex card, which can be used at participating retailers to redeem benefits and incentives, such as wellness incentives and over-the-counter dollars where available

PPO plans provide coverage at out-of-network providers, giving customers more freedom and flexibility. Higher cost shares may apply.

Cigna also offers Medicare Supplement plans and standalone prescription drug plans across all of Connecticut.
