New Haven residents age 65+ now have access to Cigna Medicare Advantage plans
We are very pleased to expand our Medicare offerings to residents of Connecticut and offer our customers in New Haven County access to a network of local providers that are committed to partnering with us to help bring them health, well-being and peace of mind,” said Aparna Abburi, president of Cigna's Medicare business.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Nov. 8, 2021 – Connecticut-based health service company Cigna (NYSE: CI) is launching a number of Medicare Advantage (MA) plans in New Haven County.

This is occurring as Cigna is in the process of expanding its MA footprint across the country in order to serve more of the aging U.S. population. Medicare Advantage plans are available to people age 65 and others who qualify. They are popular with beneficiaries because they offer additional benefits not covered in Original Medicare, such as vision, hearing, dental and prescription drug coverage.

Cigna is offering three traditional MA plans in New Haven County: Cigna Preferred Medicare (HMO), Cigna True Choice (PPO) and Cigna True Choice Plus (PPO). In addition, it is offering Cigna TotalCare Plus (HMO DSNP), which is a plan tailored to those people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.

The Cigna Preferred Medicare (HMO) and Cigna True Choice (PPO) plans are both available for $0 premium. The plans with a monthly premium include lower total out-of-pocket costs and lower hospital copays. All plans offer attractive benefits, including vision, hearing, dental and prescription drug coverage, while the PPO plans offer a dental allowance to be used for preventive and comprehensive non-cosmetic services at any licensed dentist who participates in Medicare.

The TotalCare Plus plan offers customers a debit card they can use to pay for certain expenses. The card is replenished monthly and the maximum amount varies by plan.

All four plans also offer fitness benefits and meal delivery following a hospital admission. They all include access to a network of high-quality local doctors and hospitals, including the hospitals of Yale New Haven Health and the primary care physicians and specialists of Yale Medicine and Northeast Medical Group as well as the physicians of Community Medical Group (CMG).

Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS), the largest and most comprehensive health care system in Connecticut, includes five hospitals – Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial, Westerly and Yale New Haven hospitals, several specialty networks and Northeast Medical Group, a non-profit physician foundation with several hundred community-based and hospital-employed physicians. YNHHS is affiliated with Yale University and YSM’s clinical physician practice, Yale Medicine, which is the largest academic multi-specialty practice in New England.

CMG is a clinically integrated network of more than 1,000 independent clinicians who focus on providing high-quality, evidence-based care to its patients, in an independent practice setting.

“We are very pleased to expand our Medicare offerings to residents of Connecticut and offer our customers in New Haven County access to a network of local providers that are committed to partnering with us to help bring them health, well-being and peace of mind,” said Aparna Abburi, president of Cigna's Medicare business.

Cigna also is pleased to have named Debra Kaplan-Lewis to lead its Connecticut Medicare market. Kaplan-Lewis has more than a decade of experience in Medicare, including experience with the Connecticut market. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and her master’s degree from Tufts University.

Medicare’s Annual Election Period began October 15 and continues through December 7. This is the one time each year when most people can pick or change plans. Health plans purchased during AEP are effective January 1, 2022.

Cigna also offers Medicare Supplement plans and standalone prescription drug plans in Connecticut to provide customers with choices for every budget and lifestyle.
