According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, nurses comprise the largest share of the health care workforce. They are the primary providers of care for patients in hospitals and in long-term care, and they impact patient lives each and every day.
In honor of National Nurses Week (May 6-12) and International Nurses Day (May 12), we are spotlighting just a handful of the nurses throughout Cigna Corporation, who shared with us the impact they make on the job, why they entered the nursing field and what they enjoy most about their work. Below we feature some of their most inspiring soundbites.
Danielle Faulkner, Case Management Senior Supervisor, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Evernorth Direct Health
I have the unique opportunity to care for those in our community that serve and care for us. I make a difference by finding ways to improve the total care delivery approach at our health centers and in my local community. I spend a lot of time listening to identify needs and potential opportunities to improve the support, education, and care provided. And, I collaborate with others to identify and change processes that impact the quality and accessibility of care we provide patients.
Flor Morales, RN Nurse Case Manager, Texas, Cigna Medicare
Dealing with patients and helping them through what is often a difficult time for them is extremely satisfying for me. My role as a nurse case manager is to ease people's concerns, educate them on their new disease process, and guide them on their way back to recovery. I love that nursing is not a stagnant career. There is always something new to learn from colleagues and patients and that inspires me to keep on learning every day.
Eden Parks, Nurse Case Management Senior Analyst, Cigna Medicare
Nursing has opened the door to new and amazing ways for me to provide service to the most vulnerable people of my community.
Martin Petro, Utilization Review Analyst at eviCore, a Cigna company
I make a difference through my dedication to team unity, patient advocacy, by embracing change, and a focus on getting the job done. I became a nurse to enjoy the rewards of optimizing people's well-being while being challenged to grow professionally and personally.
Sharon Rodriguez, Triage Registered Nurse, Sun City Family Practice & Patient Access Center, Cigna Medical Group
I triage patients who call in for all 20 CMG clinics. These are the most urgent calls and need to be handled quickly, efficiently and knowledgably. I quickly assess the situation and direct patient care for the best outcome. I also help those patients who need someone immediately and provide calm care and direction when time is of the essence. I am humbled and proud to say I have saved many lives in this role and made a difference to so many more.
Tiemikia Williams, Nurse Case Manager Senior Analyst, Mid Atlantic, Cigna Medicare
I make a difference by providing insight and education. Whether I am providing education about disease management, nutrition, medications, community resources, or healthy lifestyle choices, I am giving my patients the tools they need to be a better version of themselves.
