Cigna and UPMC Pinnacle Reach Agreement to Keep Quality Care Affordable in Southcentral Pennsylvania

Harrisburg, Penn. – July 30, 2020 – Cigna Corporation (NYSE: CI) and UPMC Pinnacle have agreed to a commercial contract extension through Dec, 31, 2021. This ensures Cigna commercial health plan customers in southcentral Pennsylvania will have continued in-network access to high-quality care at UPMC Pinnacle’s providers, facilities, and hospitals, including UPMC Carlisle, Hanover, Lititz and Memorial, and UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic, Harrisburg and West Shore. The new agreement is effective Aug. 1.

“We are delighted that UPMC Pinnacle will remain in Cigna's network in Pennsylvania under a new arrangement that will greatly benefit the people we jointly serve with predictable, affordable access,” said Edgar Miranda, president of Cigna's Liberty Valley market.

“Both parties understand the importance of the relationship to UPMC's patients, Cigna’s health plan members, and employers with Cigna group insurance,” said Phil Guarneschelli, president, UPMC Pinnacle. “We are pleased that we were able to extend our contract for their benefit and look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality health care services to these stakeholders.”

The new agreement follows a period of productive discussions focused on cooperation and a commitment to finding a solution that will benefit Pennsylvania employers, families and health care providers.
