By

For the sixth year in a row, Cigna earned a spot among the top 100 companies in the United States for outstanding environmental, social and governance (ESG) transparency and performance, according to 3BL Media’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens The annual ranking measures ESG among the largest 1,000 U.S. public companies, and Cigna is one of only two health services companies to make the list.

“Cigna’s focus on positively impacting the health of people, communities and the environment supports our company’s mission to improve the health, well-being and peace of mind of those we serve,” said Mary Tullis Engvall, senior director of corporate responsibility at Cigna. “Through Cigna Connects, our strategic approach to corporate responsibility, we aim to serve as a catalyst of action and a convener of stakeholders who, together, can make a difference around critical health topics. We are honored to be named to this list for six years in a row.”

100 Best Corporate Citizens compiled by 3BL Media, ranks the Russell 1000 Index companies based on 141 ESG factors across eight pillars: climate change; employee relations; environment; ESG performance; financial; governance; human rights; stakeholders and society. Company data was evaluated from March 2019 through March 2020, so factors related to COVID-19 were not included.

“Achieving the transformational targets in the Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals in this decade means we need all companies to embed ESG issues into their business,” said Dave Armon, CEO of 3BL Media. “The best corporate citizens of 2020 are leaders, demonstrating how transparency, ambitious goals, robust strategies and accounting for all stakeholders builds business and social value.”

3BL Media develops the methodology and ISS ESG researches the data and information and processes the ranking. There is no fee for companies to be included in 100 Best Corporate Citizens. Data and information used in the ranking must be publicly available through corporate sources and reputable third-parties.
