Cigna to Acquire Great American Supplemental Benefits Group
10 May 2012BLOOMFIELD, Conn., May 10, 2012 - Cigna Corporation (NYSE: CI) and American Financial Group (NYSE: AFG) today announced that they have signed a definitive agreement whereby Cigna will acquire Great American® Supplemental Benefits Group, one of the largest manufacturers, distributors, and marketers of supplemental health insurance products in the United States. The transaction is expected to close during the second half of 2012 following customary regulatory approval.

Revenues reflect growth in premium and fees of 36% in Health Care, 24% in International and 8% in Disability and Life, driven by continued growth in our targeted customer segments, as well as the impact of the HealthSpring acquisition. Total revenues increased 25% to $6.8 billion in the first quarter.
