InformationWeek has named Cigna's new online health care cost and quality capabilities a top ten technology innovation of 2012. The announcement was made as part of the 24th annual InformationWeek 500 rankings which are based on a examination of the technology strategies and initiatives of companies across the 21 industries worldwide. The global technology award recognizes myCigna.com for its newly redesigned “Find Doctors and Services” search engine that enables Cigna customers to assess medical costs for 200 common medical procedures.

Cigna health plans are the top-ranked Health Maintenance Organization/Point of Service (HMO/POS) and/or Preferred Provider Organization/Open Access-type (PPO-type) plans in Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey, and North Carolina, among other states, according to National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA’s) Private Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2012-2013. The rankings are based on NCQA's measurement of a health plan's performance in three categories: improving health care quality, providing responsive customer service and achieving high scores on NCQA accreditation surveys.

The Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Health Care (LVBCHC) in Pennsylvania named Cigna's Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan a “Gold” plan in its first-ever health plan score card, released to the Coalition’s health care purchaser members in late August. Hospital executives ranked Cigna as the number 1 health plan for overall favorability in ReviveHealth’s sixth annual survey. Cigna earned a 71 percent favorable score, up from last year’s second place ranking at 65 percent. Hospital executives also rated Cigna as “the best payer to deal with” for the second year in a row.
