  • CIGNA earned the 2009 Gartner & 1to1 Customer Awards: first place Gold Medal award for an exemplary customer strategy as well as a customer experience excellence award. According to the panel that selected CIGNA for this recognition: “The judges cited CIGNA's comprehensive enterprise-wide strategy, executive support, and results like increases in customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and first-contact resolution as reasons for nominating the company as their top choice in the Customer Strategy category.” (news release)
     
  • CIGNA New Zealand was awarded an international certification for information security management, making it the only financial services company in New Zealand to receive this accreditation. The award was announced by BSI Management Systems Australia and New Zealand, the premier standard for information security management internationally. 
     
  • The myCIGNA.com Care Connections web site had was ranked number one for best innovation in customer intimacy and 64th overall on the 2009 InformationWeek 500.  (news release)
     
  • CIGNA Customer Service Call Center Vice President Bob McVey was been named the Stevie® Award’s “Customer Service Executive of the Year” at the 2009 American Business Awards. Both McVey and CIGNA call operations were finalists for three Stevie Awards customer service categories; with McVey receiving top honors for executive leadership resulting in improved service delivery, operational efficiency and exceeding customer expectations  (news release)
     
  • CIGNA received the CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation in 2009 from the CEO Roundtable on Cancer in recognition of CIGNA's effort to improve the health of employees and reduce their risks of cancer. The CEO Roundtable is awarded only after a company meets or exceeds the rigorous requirements set out by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer.  
     
  • CIGNA HealthCare Call Centers have again been certified by J.D.   • CIGNA and CMC Life Insurance Co. Ltd, a joint venture between CIGNA and China Merchants Group, captured the 2008 Best Foreign Life Insurance Company Award in the annual China Best Financial Institutions Rankings. The award, organized by China Financial News and the Institution of Finance and Banking of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was given to the life insurance company that demonstrated performance excellence and prudent risk management in its operations in 2008.
     
  • CIGNA is the best managed care organization and has the best employee assistance program (EAP) according to the 2008 Business Insurance Reader Choice Awards. This is first time CIGNA has been awarded both honors, and the fourth year in a row that CIGNA has been named for the best EAP. (news release
     
  • CIGNA Pharmacy Management’s online Prescription Drug Price Quote Tool received two awards from Consumer Health World for 2008’s Best Innovation Stimulating Consumer Engagement and Best Application for Enhancing Patient Access for Information. The awards are presented to recognize excellence and advancement in service, products and programs that enhance consumers’ abilities to manage their health care expenditures and enhance health care quality. The myCIGNA.com Prescription Drug Price Quote tool can be found online at CIGNA's secure member Web portal. The tool enables individuals in CIGNA Pharmacy’s plans to compare the actual price of prescription drugs based on the member’s specific benefit plan. Other features include Google mapping to easily find a pharmacy and alerts for medications with special requirements. Information about medications and questions for individuals to ask their physicians about their medication or condition is available. The tool also includes discount coupons for clients who have enrolled in CIGNA’s Save with Generics program. 
     
  • CIGNA Hong Kong was the recipient of seven awards at the 8th Annual Hong Kong Call Center Awards Ceremony in 2007, sponsored by the Hong Kong Call Center Association. CIGNA received more awards than any other company and was recognized as the best performing call center in Hong Kong. 
     
  • The CIGNA Behavioral Health Employee Assistance Program (EAP) has been chosen by Business Insurance readers as the Best Overall EAP in the country for 2005, 2006 and 2007 in the publication's annual "readers' choice" award. CBH has maintained this recognition for its long-term commitment to integrated care, quality, service and innovation by readers of the magazine. 

Recognition for Dedication to Wellness and Quality of Care

  • CIGNA Spain was awarded the 2009 prestigious NAOS Prize for having the best health promotion program at the workplace. The award-winning program, CIGNA Plusvita, is a new health management program for the Spanish market and also available to CIGNA Spain employees, designed to improve productivity and job satisfaction while reducing absence from sickness and voluntary turnover. The NAOS Prize is a government initiative launched by Spain’s Ministry of Health.

  • CIGNA has been awarded bronze honors for best practices in health information/decision support by URAC (news release)
     
  • In October, 2008 CIGNA received a Working Family Support Award from the Working Family Resource Center, in recognition of CIGNA's parent education programs that support working families. Based in St. Paul, Minn., the Working Family Resource Center educates, strengthens and affirms working families at the worksite by providing seminars and resources to help individuals manage their work life challenges. 
     
  • CIGNA Medical Group's Diabetes Self-Managment program was recently chosen as the winner of Arizona Business Magazine's "2008 HealthCare Leadership Award."  
     
  • Intracorp's utilization management program for workers' compensation was awarded full Utilization Management Accreditation by URAC, a Washington, DC-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry. The Workers’ Compensation Utilization Management standards address the unique characteristics of workers’ compensation utilization management and ensure quality oversight for this fast growing area of managed care. 
     
  • CIGNA has earned Full Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its PPO and Open Access Plus plans nationwide. Full Accreditation is the highest rating possible under NCQA’s PPO Accreditation program. In addition, all 23 CIGNA HealthCare HMO and Point of Service Plans are NCQA-Accredited and 21 have earned Excellent Accreditation status. Additionally, CIGNA plans have earned NCQA Certification for Physician and Hospital Quality standards for the 22 HMO/Point of Service and 36 PPO and Open Access markets across the country in which this information is currently provided. These standards assess how well a plan provides individuals with information about physicians and hospitals in its network to help them make informed health care decisions.

Recognition for Community Service

  • CIGNA's public learning program has won two Horizon Interactive Awards in a global competition that recognizes excellence in interactive media production: The Gold Award for Consumer Information for the "It's Time to Think Differently" program and the Bronze Award for Public Service/Not-for-Profit for the "WhyWater?" Educational program.
     
  • The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Texas Diversity Council awarded CIGNA its Corporate Commitment Award for member companies in 2009. The Chapter also awarded a non-member company award to Waste Management, a CIGNA client.
     
  • CIGNA won the 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility and Health Award from A Chance to Heal, a Philadelphia organization committed to preventing eating disorders through education and advocacy. The award is based on the CIGNA Foundation’s 2008 Philadelphia event, the Mind/Body Wellness Forum, which brought together mental health experts from CIGNA and leaders from Philadelphia’s academic, medical and human services areas to discuss how to maintain a healthy state of mind and body.
     
  • CIGNA was named to the 2009 “Global Green 100” list by The Uptime Institute, which highlights the Fortune 500 and InformationWeek 500 companies that have demonstrated a commitment to energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction in IT and data center operations. The Uptime Institute is a research think-tank and advisor to owners and operators of the world's largest enterprise data centers.
     
  • CIGNA received a Community Development Award in 2009 from The Kankakee (Illinois) Regional Chamber of Commerce for CIGNA's work in helping Operation Backpack collect backpacks with school supplies for 150 needy children.
     
  • CIGNA was honored in 2008 by The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter for generous support of JDRF’s mission to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through research. Over the last few years, CIGNA’s efforts have led to more than $250,000 donated to JDRF research.
     
  • CIGNA received the Platinum Award for Corporate Sponsorship from the Black Data Processors Association (BDPA), Pennsylvania chapter. The award recognized CIGNA's support in helping the BDPA provide professional development for African-Americans seeking careers in Information Technology.    
     
  • H. Edward Hanway, CIGNA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, was honored for his exceptional contributions to the Philadelphia community  by The Council For Relationships at the Council's 75th anniversary in 2007.  

Recognition as an Employer

CIGNA received the 2008 Platinum Award for encouraging a healthy lifestyle for employees and their families through the Healthy Life program, part of CIGNA's health and wellness strategy.  
     
  • Fortune magazine and Watson Wyatt named CIGNA's joint venture operation in China as one of the top 10 companies to work for. 
     
  • CIGNA HealthCare of Arizona was named one of Arizona Woman Magazine's "Top 25 Workplaces for Women" in 2007 
     
  • CIGNA Corporation was named a Best Place to Work in 2006 and 2007 by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans.
